The Journey
“Ok… so where do we even start?”
That was our very first thought the moment we decided to actually pursue this crazy dream. We’ve played tons of games in our lives — everything from shooters to strategy games to endless indie titles — but building one? That was completely new territory.
We had no experience, no background in game development, and definitely no idea what we were signing up for. But we did have curiosity, excitement, and a stubborn desire to try. And sometimes, that’s enough to get moving.
Step One: Figure Out the Basics
We narrowed down our first steps to two big questions:
1) What game engine should we use?
2) What does it actually take to build a game?
Before writing a single line of code, we spent days researching engines, tools, tutorials, and how other developers built their games from scratch. We watched videos, read blogs, scrolled forums, and kept asking ourselves, “Where does someone with zero experience even begin?”
Eventually, we landed on Unity. It felt like the most beginner-friendly option with the clearest learning path, the most tutorials, and the biggest community ready to help when we inevitably get stuck. Once we made that decision, things suddenly became real.
We opened up Excel and started listing everything — mechanics, art ideas, tools we’d need, features we dreamed of adding, and things we didn’t even know how to describe yet. Seeing that list grow made us realize:
We’re actually doing this. A wild, chaotic, confusing journey was officially underway. And honestly? We were as ready as we were ever going to be.
With Unity chosen and our ideas starting to take shape, the next question was: What should this world look like?
We knew we wanted something that felt connected to nature — mountains, fresh air, adventure. So we started experimenting with color palettes and styles that matched that feeling. Earth tones, soft gradients, and fun colors that remind you of the outdoors.
We’re still early in this climb — learning, building, breaking things, and trying again. But just like any mountain, the only way to reach the top is to keep taking one step at a time.
And we’re excited to bring everyone along for every part of it.
